Bridging Diagnostics and Holistic Care in Lifestyle Disease Management
A patient recently consulted me complaining of burning sensations in her feet, which is a common symptom often associated with neuropathy. When I inquired about her history of diabetes, she informed me that she had borderline diabetes and was currently receiving acupuncture treatments. However, when I asked to review her recent medical reports, she revealed she had not undergone any diagnostic testing for the past two years. She had been acting on advice from her previous therapist, who stated that tests were unnecessary if she felt she was doing well.
Recognizing the clinical risk, I educated the patient on the necessity of objective monitoring and strongly advised her to undergo Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS), and HbA1c testing. The resulting reports revealed a significantly elevated glycemic profile: an FBS exceeding 200 mg/dL, a PPBS exceeding 400 mg/dL, and an HbA1c of 13.1%.
In response, I developed a comprehensive treatment protocol that integrated naturopathy treatments, acupuncture, personalized diet guidance, and specific home treatments based on naturopathy. I also advised her to incorporate allopathic medications, although she initially expressed a strong reluctance toward taking them.
Through consistent management and adherence to the structured protocol, we re-evaluated her status after four months. Her follow-up laboratory results showed a remarkable improvement: her FBS dropped to 99 mg/dL, her PPBS decreased to 210 mg/dL, and her HbA1c improved to 7.1%. The patient was extremely pleased with the outcome and reported feeling healthy overall, demonstrating the profound impact of structured, comprehensive lifestyle disease management.
